Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, went on a little bit of a rant, of course via his own personal Facebook ,saying that social media may be past its peak. Specifically, Facebook. Why is that? People seem to want to connect privately as opposed to a “town square.” The number of personal status updates has also been on the decline.
Google and Twitter are also on a downward trend, with Google in the process of completely taking Google+ offline.
So what does all this mean for Facebook? Lots of changes. One in particular is the “permanence problem.” While platforms like Instagram & Snapchat have the ability to lose content after 24 hours, Facebook doesn’t quite have that ability yet.
When can we expect these changes? Well, “turning a ship that large is difficult.”… Probably not for a while.
TAYLOR’S TAKEAWAY: Aside from posting for the radio stations, I personally haven’t posted a status update in a while. If I do, it’s usually photos, sharing something from the station’s Facebook, or big life news. Because, of course, 2,000 of my closest friends need to know the trajectory my life is on. 😉
So, until Facebook cleans up some of the negative noise, and maybe I clean up my friends list, you can catch me on Instagram. -Taylor
