JUSSIE SMOLLETT UPDATE: 20th Century Fox “Gratified”

By Michelle Mitchell Mar 26, 2019 | 10:33 AM

UPDATE 3/27:

Okay, what the heck happened in Chicago yesterday?!

Here’s what the State’s Attorney says: “After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.”

The State’s Attorney’s office also said they are considering this outcome “alternative prosecution,” because he participated in TWO days of community service, forfeited his bond, and has a clean record otherwise.

Another kicker: 20th Century Fox Television/Fox Entertainment has not fired Jussie from Empire. The producers of the show cut him out of the remaining five episodes, but technically he still has a job. “We are gratified on his behalf that all charges against him have been dismissed,” read a statement issued by Fox.

Jussie told reporters yesterday, “I’d like nothing more than to get back to work and move on with my life.”

BREAKING: CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST JUSSIE SMOLLETT

3/26, 10:31 a.m. — Prosecutors in Cook County have dropped charges against Empire actor, Jussie Smollett. The news comes after Smollett plead not-guilty to a 16-count indictment less than two weeks ago.

Smollett was accused of filing a false police report, disorderly conduct and lying to police about a hate crime. Smollett’s spokesperson says they expect his record to be “fully expunged.”

On January 29, Smollett told police he was attacked by two masked men who shouted homophobic and racist slurs as he was beaten and a noose was wrapped around his neck. Upon further investigation, police believed the attack was staged and a publicity stunt.
