Sheriffs file suit to overturn Illinois Trust Act

Four sheriffs have filed suit in federal court to overturn the state’s Trust Act they believe interferes with law enforcement’s ability to deal with undocumented immigrants.The lawsuit contends the Trust Act is pre-empted by federal law “because it undermines and frustrates the federal government’s exclusive power to regulate immigration.”The American Civil Liberties Union said the sheriffs were trying to choose which laws they want to enforce.
