Hayley Williams Distances Herself Again From Paramore Hit

Paramore singer Hayley Williams has once again distanced herself from the band's biggest hit, “Misery Business.” The track, taken from the group's 2007 album Riot!, was cut from Paramore's set list in 2018 because of complaints that it was “anti-feminist.”

This was due to one particular line in the second verse, in which Williams sang, “Once a whore, you’re nothing more, I’m sorry that’ll never change.” Upon hearing that the song made Spotify’s recent “Women Of Rock” playlist, Williams wrote on social media, “I know it’s one of the band’s biggest songs but it shouldn’t be used to promote anything having to do with female empowerment or solidarity.”

She added, “I’m so proud of Paramore’s career, it’s not about shame. it’s about growth and progression.” She went on to say that even though “Misery Business” was a fan favorite, “We don’t need to include (the song) on playlists in 2020.”

The track was later removed from Spotify’s “Women Of Rock” playlist.

Williams recently announced her first-ever solo tour in support of her debut solo album, Petals For Armor. Williams will start her run in mid-May in Europe, followed by a North American tour kicking off on May 28th in Seattle, Washington. Petals For Armor is due out May 8th.
