Fire heavily damages building that was site of steakhouse on South Sixth Street

A two-alarm fire heavily damaged the former Charlie R’s Steakhouse in the 2200 block of South Sixth Street late Friday.The fire was heavily engaged and heavy smoke was pushing out of the building when Springfield Fire crews arrived around 10:40 p.m. Crews were on the scene putting out hot spots and ensuring the integrity of the building until about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, said Fire Chief Allen Reyne.Part of the building facade collapsed onto Sixth Street.
