My Chemical Romance singer and award-winning comic book writer Gerard Way plans to reissue his comic book series The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys. The comic book was a companion piece to the band's 2010 concept album, Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, and continued the LP's storyline.
Way told us at the time of the album's release that the Danger Days record was inspired by the comic and not vice versa: “This comic idea had come first, called The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, that I was working on with my friend Shaun Simon, and that was kind of I guess the first seed. But everything I wanted to say in that comic is what I ended up saying on Danger Days as well, so the projects felt like they were brother and sister.”
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic California city in 2019, where a few outsiders called Killjoys fight against an evil corporation. Publisher Dark Horse Comics will put out a hardcover Library Edition of the series, which ran for six issues in 2013. The new edition, due out September 2nd, will include the entire series along with a short story and sketchbook section.
Way said in a statement, “I am beyond excited that my co-creators and I get to release this gorgeous edition of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: California. Dark Horse really gives their hardcover presentations a lot of thought, and put a ton of creativity into the design.”
Way's most popular comic book series, The Umbrella Academy, won an Eisner Award — the comics industry's highest honor — and was adapted as a Netflix series last year.
