Study: Swearing Helps to Reduce Pain

By Wes Styles May 28, 2020 | 6:23 AM

There is actual science that now confirms: saying the F-word really can make pain go away. Scientists first tested the theory in 2009.

Now a new study says not only is the F-word effective, British scientists say it reduced pain tolerance by 33 percent. But when they tried using made-up swear words, they say there was no difference.

The scientist stated “while it is not properly understood how swear words gain their power, it has been suggested that swearing is learned during childhood and that averse classical conditioning contributes to the emotionally arousing aspects of swear word use. This suggests that how and when we learn conventional swear words is an important aspect of how they function.”

So, swearing IS good for you after all!
