Did Nickelodeon Just Confirm That SpongeBob SquarePants Is Gay?

It’s hard to believe now, but there was a time when we’d regularly discuss meaningless things online, like:  Do you think SpongeBob SquarePants is, you know, gay?

Well, SpongeBob was trending for that reason again yesterday, after Nickelodeon included him in a celebration of Gay Pride on social media.

The caption said, quote, “Celebrating Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.”

SpongeBob was featured alongside Korra from “Avatar: The Legend of Korra” and Michael D. Cohen (a.k.a. Schwoz) from “Henry Danger”, who are both known members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Nickelodeon didn’t elaborate, so it’s possible that SpongeBob was just included as an “ally.”  But of ALL the allies they could’ve picked, it would’ve been odd for them to select SpongeBob, whose sexuality has been debated since Day One.

By the way, the late Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of “SpongeBob SquarePants”, has always said, quote, “We never intended [SpongeBob and Patrick Starfish] to be gay.  I consider them to be almost asexual.”
