MTV dedicated its “Video Music Awards” to CHADWICK BOSEMAN last night.
But it was LADY GAGA’s night. Between winning multiple awards, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (for “Rain On Me”), to her epic, 9-minute performance that included a guest appearance from ARIANA GRANDE. . .
To receiving the “Tricon Award” for being a “multidimensional artist”, Gaga was pretty much all over the show.
She didn’t get too political, other than telling people to wear a mask because it’s, quote, “a sign of respect.” And she practiced what she preached. She wore a variety of masks throughout the night, as did her band AND Ariana.
But it was THE WEEKND who won Video of the Year for “Blinding Lights”. . . and also Best R&B. He wasn’t in the mood to be joyful though. During both acceptance speeches, he called for justice for JACOB BLAKE and BREONNA TAYLOR.
In lighter news, MILEY CYRUS performed “Midnight Sky” and brought back her wrecking ball. Well, technically it was a MIRROR ball, and she was clothed. But it’s 2020 . . . we’ll take what we can get.
If you have young daughters, the biggest moment of the night was BTS performing “Dynamite”. And the BLACK EYED PEAS closed the show with “VIDA LOCA” and “I Got a Feeling”.
