Netflix cancellations are up, and the furor over “Cuties” could have something to do with it.
“Cuties” is a French film that’s supposed to be about the dangers of sexualizing young girls. But to make its point, the movie shows young girls in sexual situations, including age-inappropriate dance numbers.
About a week ago, the hashtag “Cancel Netflix” hit the top-trending spot on Twitter, and that’s when cancellations started.
According to a research company called YipitData, Netflix’s daily cancellation rate was nearly EIGHT TIMES HIGHER than normal on Saturday.
There’s no word how many people quit, though . . . or how much of an impact it’ll make. Netflix added 25.9 million new subscribers in the first six months of the year, thanks in part to the pandemic. They have about 193 million worldwide.
