Kanye West took to Twitter to post new guidelines for his vision of what record deals should look like in the music industry. Number one, Kanye says artists would automatically own the copyright to their songs and recordings for a label and they'd lese them to companies for a maximum period of time of just one year. He also said the record label/publisher would not get the lion's share of any profits during that one year. He also thinks it should be split 80/20 in the artist's favor.
Meanwhile, Kanye also thinks artists shouldn't need anyone representing them. He also wants contracts to be written in plain English, not lawyer talk. He also said that artists deserve equity in the companies they partner with and their songs and licenses should serve as stock in a way.
He ended with, “This is a call for all artist to unify … I will get my masters , I got the most powerful lawyer in music and I can afford them but every artist must be freed and treated fairly.”

In other news, Despite their history, Kanye also tweeted that he vows to get Taylor Swift her master's back from Big Machine Records, which was acquired by Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings in 2019. He tweeted, “I’M GOING TO PERSONALLY SEE TO IT THAT TAYLOR SWIFT GETS HER MASTERS BACK. SCOOTER IS A CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND.”
Kanye also responded to reports that Jay Z sold his masters so that he could buy his own. He tweeted, “Don’t let the system pit us against each other … JAY IS MY BROTHER … I have eternal love for all artist that have been through and are still trapped this crooked system. Jay still doesn’t get his own masters back for ten years. I will see to it that we all get our masters”
MASE SAYS KANYE OWES HIM AN APOLOGY
Meanwhile, Ma$e has called out Kanye, saying that he owes him a public apology. Kanye previously criticized Ye for stepping away from the music industry at the height on his career. Mase tweeted, “#KanyeWest much of what you are feeling has been expressed before. But when I was saying it, the same system and mindset that you are fighting against today, used you to shame me for leaving the very same system!” He continued, “#Remember, your famous line 'Don’t leave when you hot'? I know today you may see it very differently so… You owe me (and my family) a public #apology and then some, if anyone owes you one. For alluding to the fact that me following God at the height of my career was a bad decision.”
Back in 1999, Mase left hip-hop to pursue a calling from God.
