Today (Monday, March 8th) is International Women's Day and one of country music's favorite ladies, Maren Morris, is telling us about the women who are most important in her life both personally and professionally.
First up is her mom, Kellie Morris, who Maren tells us was a wonderful role model. “Definitely my mother. She's such a hard worker and she and my dad own a small business in Texas and I feel like nothing's been handed to her. She grew up in poverty and she really made something of herself without even a college degree. She's just such a street-smart go-getter and so I feel like that's been instilled in me from day one because of my mom.”
Professionally speaking, Maren has a long list of women who have helped shape her as an artist. “The women that really, really inspire me musically is like, you know, Dolly Parton is a big one, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, and honestly like I've been fortunate enough to work with some of these women and really see firsthand that they are everything I hoped they would be and more, even on a professional and personal level. I mean, the list goes on and on but those are the kind of key people that have shaped me as a woman and as an artist.”
Maren duets with her husband Ryan Hurd on his new single, “Chasing After You.”
