Mattel continues to create films based on their brands. The latest will be a live-action Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. Fast & Furious’ Vin Diesel will star and his production company along with Universal Pictures will produce it.
“To take the classic Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em game, with Mattel as my partner, and align it with the kind of world building, franchise making success we have had with Universal, is truly exciting,” said Vin Diesel in a press release announcing the film.
Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots have been around since 1966 and this is the first attempt at creating a TV or film around the Red Rocker and Blue Bomber.
Other film projects Mattel are working based on their brands include Masters of the Universe, Barbie, Barney, and — The Magic 8 Ball. We’re wondering exactly how that last one is going to work. Probably about as good as Hasbro’s attempt with 2012’s Battleship movie.
