A website has put together a list of 15 “wild celebrity facts,” but some of them are NOT true. And they set it up as a game to see whether you could identify the ones that were correct from the ones that were wrong.
Here they are:
1. Whoopi Goldberg’s real name is actually Caryn Johnson, but she passed gas so often that people kept saying she was like a whoopee cushion, so she changed her name.
(That’s TRUE. Here’s a clip of Whoopi talking about it.)
2. Betty White is older than sliced bread.
(That’s TRUE. Betty is 99 years old and was born in 1922. The first pre-sliced loaf of bread was sold in 1928.)
3. Judy Garland suffered second- and third-degree burns after a fire stunt went wrong while filming “The Wizard of Oz”.
(That’s FALSE. That injury did occur, but it happened to Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch of the West.)
4. Guy Fieri’s real name is actually Guy Ferry, and he’s first cousins with Prince William and Harry.
(That’s FALSE. But it was tricky. His real name IS Guy Ferry, but he’s not first cousins with William and Harry.)
5. Megan Mullally was fired from her role in “Finding Nemo” for refusing to do her high-pitched Karen Walker voice from “Will & Grace”.
(That’s TRUE. Megan said that she was originally told she could do any voice she wanted, but they later insisted that she do the Karen voice, and she didn’t want to.)
6. Jason Statham was a competitive diver before he became a professional actor.
(That’s TRUE. He was even a member of Britain’s national diving team. Here’s a video.)
7. Adam Sandler came up with the premise for “Uncut Gems” after losing close to $3 million in a sports bet.
(That’s FALSE. The movie was written in 2009. Adam didn’t become attached until nearly a decade later.)
8. Benedict Cumberbatch was abducted by several men with guns while filming a TV show in South Africa.
(It’s TRUE. It happened in 2005 while he was filming the miniseries “To the Ends of the Earth” in South Africa.)
9. Before starring on “Breaking Bad”, Aaron Paul was on “The Price Is Right” where he won a car and nearly $30,000.
(It’s FALSE. But it’s another tricky one. Aaron WAS a contestant in 2000, and he made it to the Showcase Showdown, but his bid went over by only $132, so he lost. Here’s a clip.)
10. Angela Bassett is now older than Sir Ian McKellen was when he starred as Magneto in “X-Men”.
(It’s TRUE. Angela is 62, and Ian had just turned 61 when he first starred as Magneto in 2000.)
11. Jeremy Renner was a makeup artist before he became an actor.
(It’s TRUE. And he really enjoyed the job, which he said was a LOT better than waiting tables.)
12. Tony Todd’s mouth was filled with real bees while filming that iconic “Candyman” scene. He got stung multiple times and he also swallowed three of them.
(It’s FALSE. But only partially. The bees were real, and he did get stung, but he wore a mouth guard so he didn’t swallow any.)
13. Michelle Pfeiffer was literally vacuum-sealed into her “Catwoman” costume while shooting “Batman Returns”.
(It’s TRUE. She said it was one of the most uncomfortable things she’s ever done.)
14. Lauryn Hill’s real singing voice wasn’t used in “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit”. Instead, they dubbed her with the singing voice from costar Tanya Blount.
(It’s FALSE. Lauryn Hill sang everything herself.)
15. Bryan Cranston was the lead suspect in a giant murder investigation.
(It’s TRUE. Someone killed the chef at a restaurant where Bryan worked, and for a brief time, Bryan was a suspect. He was cleared though.)
