Metallica’s self-titled 1991 album aka The Black Album is legendary in many regards. The album has been certified 16x platinum and has sold nearly 17 million copies in the United States alone. It is one of the best-selling albums of the last three decades. It’s one of only two albums to spend 550+ weeks on the Billboard 200, and is the second longest-charting title in history.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary the band is releasing a remastered version of the album. Additional be a separate album dubbed “The Metallica Blacklist.” That “Blacklist” will feature 50+ artists spanning a vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, each contributing a unique interpretation of their favorite Black Album cut.
All profits from The Metallica Blacklist will be split 50/50 between Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and a charity of the artist’s choice.
