Great teachers find new and creative ways to help kids learn. And sometimes really BAD teachers do it too . . .
A high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico is dealing with a lawsuit after a chemistry teacher thought having actual SWORD FIGHTS was a good idea. It happened in 2022, but a civil suit was just filed.
She was doing a lesson on “metal and melding” and brought ACTUAL swords to class. One was a thin, European-style “rapier.” The other was a samurai sword.
She had them rearrange their desks into a fighting ring . . . started a timer . . . and had kids battle it out for two minutes each. (Here’s a video.)
Predictably, they got a little too into it . . . and a 16-year-old girl ended up with a SERIOUS gash on her right wrist. It severed multiple nerves and tendons, and she had to have surgery.
According to the lawsuit, the teacher yelled “I’m in trouble!” . . . told everyone to delete footage from their phones . . . and no one called 911 for 30 minutes. She got fired two months later. The girl’s family is seeking an undisclosed amount.
