Non-tenure track faculty at the University of Illinois-Springfield have taken a significant step toward a potential strike by filing an Intent to Strike notice with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board.
This move follows an overwhelming vote by members of the University of Illinois-Springfield Instructors United to authorize a strike, announced on February 26, due to insufficient progress in contract negotiations.
UISIU members, who teach more than 130 classes per semester, play a crucial role in the academic success of nearly 5,000 students at the Springfield campus. With the required 10-day notice now filed, faculty members could initiate a strike as early as March 18.
The next bargaining session is scheduled for March 14
