The Staab Family, operators of the Springfield area Staab Funeral Homes, has issued a notice that registration remains open ahead of its annual “Kids Good Grief Camp”, set for April 6 at Erin’s Pavilion at Southwind Park at 4965 S. Second Street, Springfield from Noon to 4:00 PM.

Kids Good Grief Camp was founded by the Staabs to assist grieving youth in coping with the death of loved ones. The event, which will be open to children ages 6 – 12, offers an opportunity for children to share their experiences with other children – validating each other’s feelings and lessening their sense of isolation. In doing so, the Staab Family hopes, they can help each other with healing.

Kids Good Grief Camp is a supportive and fun camp for children who have experienced the death of a loved one… Through Kids Good Grief Camp, children can share their experiences with other children – validating each other’s feelings and lessening their sense of isolation. In doing so, they can help each other in their individual healing journeys.

Grieving children often feel isolated because they rarely know anyone their age who has experienced the death of a friend or family member. Grief comes in waves for children. Support can be beneficial whether it has been just weeks, several months, or even years since the death of a loved one.

Guided by licensed therapists throughout the afternoon, children will participate in a variety of activities, including planting a tree, creating an art project, and engaging in exercises designed to help them develop skills to grieve in a healthy way. A registered healing/comfort dog from PawPrint Ministries will also be present for the event.

The cost of entry is set at $10, though scholarships are offered. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

Families seeing more information or to register can contact Dr. Melissa Franzen, LCPC at (312)-890-2241, or visit www.kidsgoodgriefcamp.com.
