The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4 is investigating a serious single-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning at the intersection of North Second Street and Calhoun Avenue in Springfield.
The Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a Jeep with no registration in the area of Route 27 and Edwards in Springfield. The vehicle refused to stop and sped away.
The deputy, who was not pursuing the vehicle, turned off his emergency lights but continued along the vehicle’s last known path. The deputy found the vehicle crashed and on fire in the area of 900 North Second Street.
One subject was trapped inside the vehicle, and another was trapped underneath it; both were sent to hospitals.
Charges are still pending.
