Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office offers update regarding local homicide investigation; suspect arrested in connection with incident

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office offered a public update concerning the ongoing investigation of the homicide of 19-year-old Camren White of Taylorville that occurred in the 800 block of West Lenox on April 7, 2024

The investigation led to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney issuing an arrest warrant for Justin L. Pickrell, 23, of Springfield. The warrant was for the criminal offenses of First Degree Murder and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon

On April 14, 2025 – at approximately 3:40pm – Pickrell was arrested by members of the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force; Pickrell was apprehended after a traffic crash in the area of 7th Street and South Grand Avenue in Springfield. The suspect was then transported to a local hospital due to an injury sustained in the traffic crash. 

The Sheriff’s Office thanked the Springfield Police Department, Leland Grove Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office, and the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this investigation; WMAY will have more on this story as more emerges.
