Downtown Springfield is rejoicing after the portion of Adams Street closed by fire since Juneteenth 2024 appears finally to be cleared and accessible – as are the businesses that call the immediately and persistently affected section of the road home.
The fire that occurred last Juneteenth caused structural damage not just to the building which it started at, but also to adjoining structures. Between analyses and testing, ensuring that those buildings were and remain safe to use, as well as that any and all refuse and debris were properly handled and removed, the ensuing ten months have been busy for the cleanup folks and surveyors – but full of anxiety and trepidation for many of the denizens of this section of Adams Street.
Trent R. Nelson spoke with Gordon Davis of Whimsey Tea Company on Monday to gauge the reaction from a stalwart of that neck of the downtown area; pictures of the area are also available below as well.
