The Springfield Police Department announced on Wednesday morning road closures for the upcoming 40th Annual Police Officers’ Memorial Ceremony; every year on the first Thursday of May, the Illinois Police Memorial Committee holds a ceremony to pay tribute to fallen officers and their families.
The 40th annual Police Officers’ Memorial ceremony is set to take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield at 9:00 am.
Local residents and those commuters can expect temporary road closures along 5th Street, beginning at 8:30 am during the procession of police vehicles from the Illinois State Fairgrounds to the ceremony; 6th Street will be closed to northbound traffic at South Grand Ave beginning at 8:30 am.
When the ceremony concludes at approximately 10:00 am, a procession to the Capitol Building is slated to commence – which will cause temporary closures for cross traffic on 6th Street.
The motorcade is set to proceed west on 2nd Street and continue around the Capitol Building, resulting in additional temporary road closures in that area.
