Tornado warning called for Central Illinois until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening as heavy rain, possible thunderstorms hit Sangamon County, surrounding area

Central Illinois remains under a tornado watch until 8:00 PM CDT as rain, wind and thunder all batter Springfield, Sangamon County and beyond.

Although tornado sirens were wailing across the city as of 2:42 PM CDT, the National Weather Service declared at 2:33 PM that:

“THE TORNADO WARNING FOR SOUTH CENTRAL MENARD AND NORTHWESTERN SANGAMON COUNTIES IS CANCELLED…The storm which prompted the warning has moved out of the area. Therefore, the warning has been cancelled. A tornado warning remains in effect for a separate cell further south just north of Curran.”

Updates were also made as per the surrounding area and the weather in those communities.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

Eastern Menard County in central Illinois…
Southwestern Logan County in central Illinois…
Northeastern Sangamon County in central Illinois…

* Until 315 PM CDT.

* At 231 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Abraham
Lincoln Capital Airport, or near Athens, moving northeast at 35
mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

Sherman around 235 PM CDT.
Williamsville around 240 PM CDT.
Elkhart around 250 PM CDT.

This includes Interstate 55 between mile markers 101 and 119.
