The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Friday the next phase of the $5.5 million improvement project on North Dirksen Parkway from North Peoria Road to Northfield Drive in Springfield.
Dirksen Parkway between North Peoria Road and Terminal Road will reopen to southbound traffic and close to northbound traffic; a detour will be posted utilizing Sangamon Avenue and North Peoria Road.
The improvements include resurfacing, traffic signal upgrades, and ADA improvements. Benefits from this project include safety improvements and a smoother driving surface.
The project is expected to be completed in early August.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes may be necessary. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
