City Water, Light and Power announced on Monday morning that the Springfield Fire Department – in coordination with CWLP – will be flushing and testing hydrants for operations and efficiency in Val-E-Vue and Youngston Hills subdivisions in the weeks ahead.
Val-E-Vue is planned for June 17, while Youngston Hills is planned for July 7 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
CWLP noted several reminders in particular, such as that other testing around the city is scheduled to continue through July 31; annual testing is essential to ensure fire hydrants are operating efficiently for fire protection purposes, and that testing may be rescheduled due to inclement weather
Furthermore, they stated that water can become discolored in service areas located in the vicinity of the hydrant tests, and that if discoloration occurs, residents may run cold water through an outdoor water connection or another tap until the water turns clear.
Clothes washing should be avoided during these times to reduce the chance of discoloration.
For information on locations for hydrant testing, residents may call the Springfield Fire Department at 788-8474. CWLP customers may call Water Dispatch at 217-789-2323 ext. 2 if discoloration persists or for any other questions on water quality.
