The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that it would be, “embarking on a new community initiative we are calling ‘Sheriff on the Square.'”
Similar to the principles of Coffee with a Cop, the sheriff’s office noted, the intent is to allow the public easy access to talk to deputies, correctional officers, court security, and administration staff, to build relationships, and foster better communications.
Throughout the summer months, officials will be meeting at various locations throughout Sangamon County to share a cold drink or treat – popsicles/ice cream bars – talk, play bags, or participate in other outside activities together. Just a casual gathering.
There will be representatives from corrections, court security, deputies, administration, and the recruitment team present.
The first event is set to be held in Pawnee on the Square on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Sheriff Paula Crouch noted:
“Being available and approachable is important to our office. We want these events to be a fun, relaxed way for people to get to know us. My team and I look forward to meeting members of the community, answering questions, and listening to what’s on your mind.”
