City Water, Light and Power announced late on Thursday that beginning Tuesday, June 24, CWLP’s Water Department will move to the second phase of a project to relocate 2,000 feet of 24-inch water main for the Springfield Rail Improvements Project on North Grand Avenue.
This phase of work, expected to last three weeks, requires a street opening and road closure on N. 9th Street from the North Grand Avenue intersection to Reservoir Street.
The city notes that the project represents part of the City of Springfield’s match towards the Springfield Rail Improvements Project, and is the largest piece of the multi-year project thus far. The work for relocating water main for this underpass is estimated to cost $4.8 million and is part of a total $10.2 million investment by the CWLP Water Fund for relocations and upgrades of water infrastructure. Two more phases of work planned for the North Grand Avenue underpass are expected to be complete by this fall.
Traffic lanes will remain closed for this phase of work until surface pavement repairs are completed around the week of July 14. Motorists should plan to take alternative routes to avoid delays and should slow down and drive with caution around this work zone.
