Springfield Police Department currently accepting applications for entry level patrol officers

The Springfield Police Department announced on Tuesday that it was currently accepting applications for the position of Police Patrol Officer and plans to hire multiple successful candidates for the January 2026 training academy.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. (CST).

Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the upcoming orientation session, hosted by the City of Springfield’s Human Resources Department and the Springfield Police. SPD notes that the sessions offer valuable insight into the hiring process, preparation tips for the exams, and the opportunity to meet SPD officers and ask questions.

Orientation Session:
• Thursday, July 10, 2025 – 5:00 p.m.
• Municipal Center West, 300 S. 7th Street, Third Floor
• Please email humanresources@springfield.il.us to register.

The first step in the hiring process is completion of the written and physical exams. Applicants must apply
online prior to testing, and may select from two testing dates:
• Thursday, July 24, 2025 – Must apply online by July 20, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. (CST)
• Saturday, July 26, 2025 – Must apply online by July 20, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. (CST)

To support candidates preparing for the physical exam, practice physical agility sessions are held regularly:
• Every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
