Revenue from Springfield’s many video gambling machines help fund road maintenance and other infrastructure projects in the city.
A city ordinance was passed in 2016 directing all video gaming revenues to infrastructure needs—specifically roads and sidewalks—rather than discretionary city funds.
In fiscal year 2024, Springfield’s share of the gaming machine revenue amounted to $2.47 million. That number represented about 15% of the annual city spending on roadway maintenance.
