Citizens are urging the Springfield City Council to revisit the topic of a city-wide landlord registry.
The council declined to create a registry by a six to four vote in 2023, but since then the city has often sparred with landlords over uncut lawns and decaying apartments.
Advocates argue that registration requirements could pressure owners to maintain properties and provide transparency for tenants seeking to file complaints. Local building management groups insist registration mandates would lead to higher rents.
