Finding Freedom in the Present Momen

By Rocki Jul 30, 2025 | 9:20 AM

I know that people are having a hard time finding common ground these days, but I think there’s one truth we can all agree on: life is short. And because of that, I’m starting to believe more and more in the importance of being present—really present—as much as possible. I’m also seeing the importance of taking risks, stepping outside our comfort zones, and embracing the unexpected.

Society has a tendency to place expectations on us to behave a certain way once we reach a particular age. And sure, that makes sense to a degree. I’m not saying we should ignore the responsibilities of adulthood—but I do believe it’s essential to let your inner child shine from time to time.

There are many ways to do that right here in Springfield. Whether it’s spending a day at Knights Action Park, enjoying the fun at Malibu Jack’s, or simply indulging in something spontaneous and silly, these moments of joy are valid. You don’t need to feel judged for “acting childish”—you’re just letting loose and reconnecting with a part of yourself that still craves wonder and play.

One of my favorite quotes is from Thich Nhat Hanh, who said:

“Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness.”

So as this summer continues—hot, fast, and fleeting—I hope you find your happiness. Be present. Take a risk. Laugh a little louder. And most importantly, give yourself permission to be free.
