WMAY’s Patrick Pfingsten reports in his The Illinoize newsletter that Republican Sangamon County Recorder Frank Lesko will announce next week he’s challenging Sen. Doris Turner for the 48th Senate district seat next year.
Lesko, a former Springfield City Clerk who was elected Recorder last year by 31 votes, successfully campaigned to eliminate the office after a referendum.
Lesko did not return a message Thursday seeking to confirm his plans. Turner defeated then-Rep. Sandy Hamilton by around 1,400 votes in 2022 in the most expensive legislative race in state history.
