A University of Illinois alumnus has donated 100 million dollars to Fighting Illini athletics and the university’s Memorial Stadium will bear his family’s name.
The U of I Division of Intercollegiate Athletics announced the gift on Tuesday from Larry Gies and the name change of the football stadium to Gies Memorial Stadium.
The donation honors Larry Gies Senior, a United States Army veteran. The Gies name is also on the University of Illinois College of Business.
