Construction of a new library is underway at the University of Illinois Springfield.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday for the 52,000 square-foot Library Commons, which will feature a flexible layout with various study areas and a classroom with seating for more than one hundred students.
The new construction is funded through a $42 million investment from the state. The new Library Commons building is scheduled to be complete in time for a grand opening in Fall 2027.
