A Springfield man has been found guilty of sexually abusing a girl from his neighborhood for two years beginning in 2018 when she was 11 years old.
A Sangamon County jury convicted 56-year-old Samuel Britz on Thursday. The state’s attorney’s office said Britz failed to appear in court on the fourth day of the trial before closing arguments but was later arrested in Chicago.
Britz faces a sentence of at least 27 years in prison. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled when Britz is returned to Sangamon County.
