Local activist and Massey family friend Teresa Haley said shortly after the verdict that the second-degree murder conviction was not sufficient.
Attorney Antonio Romanucci is representing the Massey family in a civil case, and said despite recent changes in the law, more modifications are needed in sentencing guidelines.
A statement from the Massey Commission called the verdict “a breath of hope and a long-delayed whisper of justice,” adding that “the task now is to ensure this verdict marks not an ending, but a beginning,” and “a recommitment to a world where care and dignity are not an afterthought, but the foundation.”
