State Reps Pass Major Energy Bill

By Greg Halbleib Oct 30, 2025 | 6:52 AM

State representatives passed a major energy bill Wednesday night that aims to lower electric bills over the next few years and make the grid more reliable.

Capitol News Illinois reports the Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act would subsidize three gigawatts of battery storage for wind and solar energy.

The legislation would also require utilities to use new energy efficiency programs and create a new long-term planning process for the electricity market.

Republicans argue the bill will actually increase rates, but Representative Jay Hoffman says savings will offset costs.

The House passed the bill 70-37. The bill now heads to the Senate.
