Enrollment at Illinois’ public university campuses is at a 10-year high of nearly 190 thousand students this year.
Capitol News Illinois reports enrollment is up at seven of the 12 universities this year.
The University of Illinois Chicago saw the biggest overall increase with 1,967 more students. Chicago State University had the largest percentage increase, growing 10.8 percent.
Deputy Governor Martin Torres attributed the growth to the state’s increased funding of higher education under the Pritzker administration. But he also blamed President Donald Trump’s immigration policies for a big drop in international student enrollment.
