A Springfield man has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for fatally shooting his live-in girlfriend in their home in 2021.

Jahsen Thomas was 43 when he was arrested after a stand-off with police at his Lincoln Avenue residence shortly after shooting 37-year-old Courtney Lynn Smith.

A jury found Thomas guilty in August. Associate Judge Rudolph Braud sentenced Thomas this week to 30 years in prison for first degree murder with a 25-year enhancement for using a firearm, and 15 years in prison for aggravated battery with a firearm.

All sentences are to be served consecutively.
