The funeral service for a longtime chairman of the Sangamon County Republican Party is on Tuesday morning.
Irv Smith died last week. He was 96.
He had been residing at the Illinois Presbyterian Home in Springfield and had been in Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Smith also was regional superintendent of schools and served as a state lawmaker for one term and on the Sangamon County Board.
A funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 11 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will be at Old Salem Cemetery.
