Springfield’s First Night Plans Announced

The Springfield Area Arts Council has announced plans for the 39th annual First Night Springfield celebration on New Year’s Eve.

The event is a family-friendly, alcohol-free celebration of the arts based in downtown Springfield. Children’s programs will be held from noon to 5 p.m at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, and several performances are planned from 5 to 7:45 at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

Tickets are 25 dollars and are available at the Hoogland Center box office or online at springfieldartsco.org.

Activities also include free ice skating at Union Square Park from noon to 4 and fireworks from Fourth Street and Capitol Avenue at 8 p.m.
