New changes in 2026 to the School Safety Drill Act will require substitute teachers to receive training on evacuation and lockdown drills.
This is important as those substitute teachers are working in different buildings and need to understand the protocol for each of those buildings.
Another change in 2026 will see seventh and eighth graders be able to receive credit for high school-level courses if they pass the course and final exam.
