A guy who teaches public speaking is going viral for a tip on how to COMMAND a conversation. He says it’s something FBI agents are taught, and it can prevent people from interrupting you in the middle of a story.
The tip is to start with something called a “command pause.”
Use an opening line to grab their attention, like, “Listen to this” or “Check this out, it’s nuts.” Then . . . PAUSE before you launch into the actual story.
Pausing for a beat reinforces in the listener’s brain that what you’re about to say is important. So they’ll shut up for five seconds and let you talk.
