The Jacksonville Center for the Arts announced this week that it will not exercise its option to purchase the historic Illinois Theater after falling short of its fundraising goal.
The organization said it worked over the past year toward an 8.8-million-dollar goal to transform the theater into a civic center and performing arts venue.
The total amount pledged was not released, but JCA acknowledged a one-million-dollar pledge from Cathy Randall and the endorsement of Jacksonville Main Street.
