Springfield Police have arrested a man on weapons charges after the shooting death of a 31-year-old Springfield man late Friday.
Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon did not release the victim’s identity.
Police said as they responded to a Shot Spotter alert in the 1300 block of East Jackson Street, they saw a vehicle in the area traveling at high speed.
Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested 23-year-old Randy Crockett of Springfield.
A police report indicated Crockett admitted to the shooting and to tossing a silver .357 revolver from his vehicle.
Officers said they found the weapon, and a search of Crockett’s residence turned up additional ammunition for it.
Crockett was arrested for firearms related offenses including possession of a firearm – No FOID and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Crockett is in the Sangamon County Jail.
