Saturday, March 7th brought the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge to the KC Club on Lake Springfield, supporting Special Olympics Illinois. More than 500 registered plungers took part, marking the highest participation in the event’s history.
Local radio personalities Ryan from 92.7 WQLZ and Rocki from 98.7 WNNS joined the plunge, helping highlight the fundraiser and its impact. Cold temperatures didn’t deter participants, who showed strong support for Special Olympics athletes and programs.
Event organizer Tara Nickerson noted the milestone, saying:
“We are so proud of this record breaking year!”
The Polar Plunge raises money for year‑round training and competitions for athletes with intellectual disabilities across Illinois. The turnout on Saturday reflected ongoing community commitment to the mission of Special Olympics.
