New Three-Year Cost Cutting Plan Presented to Springfield District 186 School Board

By Greg Halbleib Mar 10, 2026 | 5:13 AM

A three-year plan to cut nearly $10 million from the Springfield School District 186 budget was presented to the board on Monday.

Superintendent Jennifer Gill explained that approval of staffing changes or reductions for next year must happen soon under the collective bargaining agreements, although they would not go into effect until July.

Gill said state rules require the budget to be balanced by fiscal year 2028.

Gill said despite uncertain funding, the district is estimating a surplus of $3 million next year under the plan.
