The Springfield School District 186 board on Monday approved starting classes this fall on August 24th, the Monday after the Illinois State Fair.
Some board members expressed concerns about congestion and safety at Ridgely Elementary School just a few hundred feet south of the fairgrounds if classes began during the fair.
Members also said Ridgely boosters would not be able to operate their annual fair parking fundraiser on school grounds during classes.
