Former IEA President Weaver Passes Away at Age 86

Reginald Weaver, president of the Illinois Education Association from 1981 to 1987, who led the battle to ensure collective bargaining rights for Illinois educators passed away Tuesday at age 86.

Weaver, who also spent 30 years as a teacher in the Harvey school system, was the first Black person to be elected president of the IEA.
