State Senator Steve McClure says modifications to the SAFE-T Act and other state immigration policies will have to begin with Governor JB Pritzker.
McClure told WMAY’s PM Springfield that a Venezuelan national accused of the recent shooting death of a Loyola University Chicago student should not have been on the streets.
The Springfield Republican said the SAFE-T Act has allowed more offenders to be quickly released and has in turn led to many law enforcement officers leaving the profession.
McClure said the deadline for bills to be considered in committees this spring has passed, so for the moment any changes to the SAFE-T Act must be initiated by Pritzker.
